Corey Day Gets By Allgaier in the Final Laps at Dover to Win the BetRivers 200

Corey Day won the BetRivers 200 at Dover by 0.461 seconds over Justin Allgaier, getting by for the lead in the final laps after Allgaier had led 71 of the race’s 200 laps.

What Happened
Chastain led from the outside at the green flag and immediately went side-by-side with Jones. Jones got loose between turns 3 and 4 on lap 1 and Chastain cleared for the lead. Chastain and Jones traded the front through Stage 1 before Jones won the stage at lap 45.
The chaos started early. On lap 12, Crews brushed the wall off turn 2 and the chain reaction behind him took out Jeb Burton and Parker Retzlaff — both retired before lap 20. That was the beginning of nine cautions that would string through the race and keep the order in flux.
Chastain led 69 laps across Stages 1 and 2 and won Stage 2 at lap 90. The pit cycle after Stage 2 was the turning point. On the lap 100 restart, Love led from the outside with Caruth inside. Caruth got loose, made contact with Love, Love hit the wall — caution back out. Chastain inherited the lead. Then on lap 119, Gray got back under Chastain for second, they made contact off turn 4, Gray spun into the inside wall, another caution. Chastain was shuffled back through the sequence and eventually pitted again at lap 161, finishing 13th.
That left Allgaier running in front through the middle portion of Stage 3. He built a 0.706-second lead by lap 148. But Day — who had been working his way forward steadily — tracked him down. On lap 197, Day went high coming off turn 2, brushed the wall, and surged into the lead. He held it. 0.461 seconds at the flag.

Lap 197. Day went high and brushed the wall exiting turn 2 — not the conventional line, not the clean move — and came out of it with the lead. Three laps to hold it. He did. Allgaier, who had led 71 laps and had the race under control for long stretches, finished 0.461 back.
The One That Got Away
Justin Allgaier. Led 71 laps. Had the car to win and the track position for most of Stage 3. Day passed him with three laps left by taking a line that shouldn’t have worked and making it work. Allgaier finishes second in a race he should have won.

Day now has two wins in 14 races. The first was Talladega, where the race came to him. This one he went and got — from third, through nine cautions and 54 laps of yellow, in a race that kept reshuffling the order. He leads this series in wins and is running like it.
Allgaier’s 71 laps led and second-place finish is a result worth reading carefully. He’s been the most consistent presence at the front of the Xfinity Series this season without converting it into wins at the rate the lap totals suggest he should. The Dover runner-up continues a pattern: leading laps, deep finishes, and someone else’s name in the win column.
Chastain led 69 laps and finished 13th. That’s the road course cameo pattern inverted — at Watkins Glen last week he was the expected result. At Dover, where Cup short-track pace translates directly, he was the fastest car for long stretches and finished outside the top 10. The lap 119 contact with Gray ended the run. One incident from a different outcome.
Sawalich’s fourth on two right-side tires is worth a note. The gamble off pit road at lap 121 gained him track position but cost him the tire delta needed to challenge late. He had the fastest lap of the race at 150.830 mph. The pace was there. The strategy result was one spot short.

- Allgaier led his most laps ever at Dover in NOS — 71 — passing his previous high of 24 (set in August 2020). Led the most laps in the race. Finished second.
- Chastain’s Stage 2 win gives him stage wins in back-to-back Xfinity races (Dover Stage 2, Watkins Glen Stage 2 last week). He’s finished outside the top 10 in both.
- Jeb Burton and Parker Retzlaff both retired in the first 12 laps — caught up in the lap 12 caution sequence. Burton finished 37th, Retzlaff 38th.
- Sawalich posted the fastest lap of the race at 150.830 mph on lap 107 — over half a second faster than Allgaier’s 150.250 at lap 134. He finishes fourth.
- Crews finishes 22nd — the driver who brushed the wall on lap 12 and triggered the early caution sequence. The stage win record from Watkins Glen is still on the books.
